Here’s an excerpt from Jason Law’s new book – Unite My City

“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

“I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”

John 17:20-21, 23

Jesus’ prayers, much like ours, reveal His heart and His desires. This prayer shows us His desire for the Church — back then, today, and in the future — and clearly, He has spiritual insight into the heart of God. Every person who gives their life to Jesus becomes a member of His body. We are joined together by the Holy Spirit in us, and together we represent Him and do His work on the Earth. We are spiritually joined together as one in Jesus, but what does the world see? From the Dark Ages to the Crusades to recent times of racial tensions and denominational divides in the Church, we must ask ourselves what picture of Jesus we are painting for unbelievers.

Where hate and pride divide, love and honor unite.

As our churches and ministries work together in unity, we fulfill what Jesus prayed. The more we unite and carry out the Great Commission as one body, the more God’s love is seen by the world.

God designed the Church to operate like the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — as one. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are unique persons with singular abilities and focus, but they act as one. The Church should be like them — diverse but united in love and purpose.

Unite My City, the book,  provides simple teaching of why our unity is important, along with practical examples of what unity in the Body of Christ can look like and accomplish. Although I focus on the impact we can make in our cities, the principles of unity in this book are scalable from those in small towns to entire regions and can be applied to a variety of areas of life. As the Church in our nation, let’s fight for the union of our families, businesses, churches, and the local Church across our cities.

In short, I wrote Unite My City  to help us act like who we are — One Jesus. One Jesus is a term I use throughout the book to summarize the concept of the Body of Christ living and walking in unity as we are already one in Him.  One Jesus is a timely and timeless message on the power of unity in the Church and the impact we can have during this pivotal moment in history. As we live out this message, it becomes a movement God is reigniting throughout the Body of Christ.

If the Church is to impact and truly disciple nations, the Church must influence the culture of our cities. We can do that more effectively as One Jesus.

Unite My City is a starting point to challenge mindsets and inspire you to take action in how we can accomplish the mission that we have all been given as Christians. As you read this book, we believe God will show you what He wants to do in you, through you, and among us all to accomplish His purposes in the Earth today.

He is leading us to a place of reconciliation and unity that paves the way for revival. Revival starts inside each one of us. It starts with me, you, and the next person, humbling ourselves to live out a life of love in such a way that the world will notice and want to take part. It’s my responsibility and yours to represent this message of unity. As we act like One Jesus, our spiritual unity becomes the power to Unite My City — and yours!
